Service overview
Taking furniture apart and putting it back together properly
What it is
Large furniture often won't fit through doors, up stairs or into a van in one piece. Our dismantling and reassembly service takes beds, wardrobes, tables, desks and other flat-pack or modular furniture apart before the move and rebuilds it at the other end. Discuss dismantling requirements and the condition of the furniture at the survey.
Who it's for
It's for anyone with large or awkward furniture: households moving house, offices moving desks and shelving, and people moving single items like wardrobes or beds.
When you need it
You need dismantling when furniture is too big for doorways or stairs, or when moving it assembled would risk damage. Reassembly matters most when you want to use your home or office straight away.
Why professional help matters
Taking furniture apart without the right tools or experience strips screws, snaps panels and leaves you with leftover parts. Moving furniture fully assembled risks damaging doorframes, walls and the furniture itself. Ask whether dismantling is suitable for your furniture.
The risks
What goes wrong with DIY dismantling
Furniture that went together once doesn't always come apart easily.
Lost fixings
Missing bolts and cam locks can leave a bed or wardrobe unusable.
Broken panels
Chipboard and flat-pack furniture can crack when forced.
Damaged property
Forcing assembled furniture through doors marks walls and frames.
A home you can't use
Without beds or wardrobes rebuilt, the first nights in a new home are hard.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ×Mixing fixings from different pieces of furniture.
- ×Trying to move large wardrobes fully assembled.
- ×Leaving reassembly until after moving day.
- ×Not measuring new rooms before the move.

In detail
Furniture to discuss at your survey
Most homes and offices have at least a few items that need taking apart.
Beds
Bed frames, bunk beds and storage beds are dismantled and rebuilt as part of the agreed service.
Wardrobes
Large wardrobes are often too tall or wide for stairs. Taking them apart protects both the wardrobe and your walls.
Tables and desks
Dining tables, desks and office workstations are dismantled where needed and reassembled in place.
Office furniture
Shelving, meeting tables and storage units are taken apart and rebuilt in your new office layout.
Residential vs commercial
Home moves usually focus on beds and wardrobes. Office moves involve more desks and shelving and benefit from a planned layout.

Pricing
Details to include in your dismantling & reassembly enquiry
We don't publish a one-size-fits-all price list, because no two jobs are the same. A small flat on the ground floor with parking outside is a very different job to a four-bedroom house with a narrow staircase and permit-only parking. Instead, we offer a free survey and then a free fixed quote for your exact job.
For your quote, tell us about:
- How much is moving, and how large or heavy the items are
- Access at both addresses: stairs, lifts, parking and distance from the door
- The distance between addresses
- Extras you choose, such as packing, dismantling and reassembly, storage or disposal
- Your preferred date and time, so availability can be discussed
Your fixed quote covers the agreed work. If your items, addresses, access or dates change, tell us so any quote changes can be discussed before proceeding. Payment is by bank transfer or cash.
Get ready
How to prepare for your dismantling & reassembly job
Discuss your requirements before the job. Before we arrive, it helps to:
- 1.Call us early with your dates, even if they're not confirmed.
- 2.Book your free survey so we can see access and anything that needs special handling.
- 3.Decide what you don't want to keep. We can take it away under our Environment Agency Waste Carrier Licence, as an agreed disposal service.
- 4.Check parking at both addresses and let us know about any restrictions.
- 5.Measure large furniture against doors and stairs at the new property, and ask whether dismantling is suitable.
- 6.Keep valuables, documents, medication and chargers with you on the day.
If anything changes, such as a completion date moving or extra items appearing, tell us as soon as you can and we'll update the plan.
